Halloween Puffy Paint Pillow Covers

So the month of October is admittedly my favorite…
My birthday was last week, Pumpkin Spice lattes are back and Halloween is right around the corner!
Before October even rolled around I already had my Halloween stash out and scattered all over the house! Turns out though, I don’t really have all that much in the way of decorations… Needless to say I was pumped when I received a fun set of Glow in the Dark Puffy Paints via iLoveToCreate to try out!

I don’t know about you, but glow in the dark screams Halloween decorating to me! 😉

Materials Needed for Halloween Puffy Paint Pillow Covers:

  • Glow Puffy Paints
  • 1 yard of black fabric
  • Glow in the dark spider rings
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine

{If you don’t want to sew your pillow covers, you could easily purchase some pre-made from the craft or department store.}

I always use this tutorial when making simple envelope pillow covers. I made two 16′ pillow covers so I cut and measured my fabric accordingly and pinned the two sides and seems.
Then I sewed the top and bottom edges of my pillow face so I would know where to paint on my Halloween pictures.

For pillow cover #1 I decided on a spiderweb. I used the Gray Glow Puffy Paint to freehand my web. Drawing (in this case Puffy painting) a spider web is fairly easy. Start with several crisscrossing lines, like so…

Then draw paint curved lines between each of your crossed lines… Like so….

For pillow cover #2 I hand wrote the words Happy Halloween using the Orange Glow puffy Paint. Each of my pillow faces were left to dry overnight… The Puffy Paint dries in four hours according to the package, but I wanted to be on the safe side.

Each pillow received a couple of glow in the dark spiders… I just cut the ring part off each spider ring, then hot glued them where I wanted them.

The final step was sewing the sides of my pillow covers closed then flipping them inside out. I stuffed a 16′ pillow inside each one and viola!

Stenciled Welcome Pillow

Hi there lovelies!

Today let’s make a Stenciled Welcome Throw Pillow!

My living room is decorated in a western theme, mostly browns and tans.
I thought a team roping throw pillow would be fun, and it was, but the space was screaming for some more COLOR! Turquoise in fact. :)

Materials needed:
Envelope pillow cover – I use this tutorial for all the pillow covers I sew.
Fabric paint or craft paint (the team roper pillow was done with craft paint!)
Stencil – I designed the Welcome and the cowboy boot (purchased through the Silhouette store) on my Silhouette software then cut it out with my Silhouette in vinyl to make my stencil.

I sew the envelope pillow cover to make the face of the pillow, but stop before sewing up the sides.
This makes it WAY easier to stencil and paint!

Peel and layout your stencil on the face of the pillow.

Then fill the stencil in with the fabric/craft paint, very carefully, with the paint brush!
I leave mine to dry at least overnight before sewing up the sides of the envelope pillow cover.

Hello Truly Lovely readers!  I am so happy to be back as a Bestie today.  Please hop over to 3 Wishes and show some love to Kassi as she is talking about being thankful.  A topic near and dear to my heart!
I am thankful to Kassi and her sister Kayli for having me as their guest today!!Today I thought I would share a craft with you…I have two sweet friends having babies very soon, so I just finished up one of these precious name plaques and I will be creating the other one for you today.I have to admit, I am not the most crafty, but I sure love trying.  I love receiving handmade gifts so I try to give things that I can make myself that are thoughtful.My dear friend Lori is having a baby and this is for her little one.You can hang these on the wall or on the child’s door.  I have made quite a few of these as gifts.

Here are the supplies you will need.  I found everything at Michael’s craft store.

  • A plaque. Michael’s sells different shapes and sizes and they are reasonable
  • Wood letters for the child’s name
  • Paint…I am using a pale blue and beige,with pale beige for polka dots
  • A glue gun
  • Coordinating ribbon, this is what you will use to hang the plaque, you can even glue buttons, or  small toys on the plaque if you would like

First paint your plaque the color you would like.

 

Then paint your letters.

You will glue your letters on. I actually just use paint to glue them on.

I used a Q-tip to paint the polka dots.

 

 

Then you will hot glue the ribbon on the back, I found this sweet ribbon that says made with love.

 

As you can see it is not a difficult project, but it is adorable.  Here are some others I have created.

 

 For my one of my nephew’s, I found a toy skateboard and painted it, then glued it on.

Aren’t they adorbs. These would make great birthday gifts, shower gifts, even as a house warming gift for a child.

Pallet Welcome Sign

Today I have a fun DIY/Craft to share with you dolls.

The hubs and I made Pallet Welcome Signs for some friends of ours and I’d love to share the tutorial with you!

First, hubs cut up an old pallet into several similarly sized pieces. We decided three pieces would make a decent sized welcome sign. Next, I cut out some words in vinyl using my Silhouette SD to make some stencils.

I stenciled the words onto the pieces of pallet using the vinyl stencils, a small paint brush and some black acrylic paint.

We let them dry for several hours.

Once they were dry, we took the three stenciled pieces (per sign) and connected them using two Strong-Tie straps purchased from Home Depot, and a few well placed screws.

 You can also see our sign “hanger” in the above photo. The barbed wire was the hubs’ genius idea. Adds to the rustic look, don’t you think?? We simply cut a small piece of barbed wire, bent it to our liking, then screwed each side down on the back of the sign.

So…. What do you think??

Hubs’ was a great help on this one… It would appear he’s got an eye for rustic design. 😉

Painted Throw Pillow

Hello lovelies!!!

Did you know you can paint fabric?
Don’t laugh all you crafty smarties out there… I just had this revelation recently, so if it’s old news to you…
Don’t judge… haha.

With my new found fabric painting knowledge I made a Painted Throw Pillow Cover for our living room!!!

This tutorial isn’t about sewing an envelope pillow cover, but if you’re really looking for a few instructions this tutorial from Rae Gun’s Ramblings is a really good one.

To make a painted throw pillow I go ahead and hem the top and bottom (for the edges of your envelope) as well as sew the top and bottom of the pillow cover so that you’ll know where the ‘face’ of your pillow will be.

Then I used my handy Silhouette SD to cut a stencil out of some sticky backed vinyl. If you don’t have a craft cutter (Silhouette, Cameo, Cricut), you can always make your stencil using freezer paper and scissors.

I chose some team ropers for my team roping hubby and because our living area is western themed/decorated.

I centered the stencil on what was to be the face of my pillow cover. Using a soft bristle paint brush and some brown Enamels paint, I carefully filled in my stencil.

I let it dry completely overnight, then went back to the sewing machine and stitched up the sides of my pillow cover.
Note – It’s SO much easier to paint the stencil on before finishing your cover!!!

That’s it! Now you can display your pretty painted throw pillow in your home! 😉

You could do this with any shaped pillow cover, any stencil, and {it would appear} any paint…
If it’s going to be washed often, I would make sure to get fabric specific paint so that it can be washed frequently.

Painted Pyrex

Hello friends!! 
A couple weeks ago my sweet friend, the new Mrs. Knight, got married. 
The same sweet friend who did MY hair at my wedding!
So I wanted to make her something special for a bridal shower gift. 


She had a set of Pyrex bake ware on her registry… 
But naturally, they needed a little Truly Lovely spiffying up. 😉


This was a project that plagued me for weeks.
I had two FAILED attempts before I found something that worked, and turned out the way I wanted.


First… Don’t buy this stuff. It doesn’t look like glass etching at all.
More like gunk just globbed on there. Unless that’s the look you’re going for of course…
And it my case it wasn’t… So off it came!

Second… If you’re going to paint glass… You have to be very careful and very patient.
Otherwise it leaks and streaks and just looks yucky.
Those pictures up there really don’t even do justice to the craft fail that they actually were… haha.


Mrs. Knight’s kitchen and home in general has a western/country look and feel to it.
Her kitchen is red and brown.

So, in the method that worked out the way I wanted, I used brown glass paint and Silhouette cut vinyl stencils to add her new last name to a set of Pyrex dishes. 

What saved me SO much time and trouble was using a foam sponge (makeup dept.) to dab the paint onto the glass dishes instead of using a paint brush.

I also used the stencils as the INSIDE of the letters so that it didn’t have to look so precise. This is one of those projects where exact perfection isn’t going to happen… BUT that was perfect in this case leaning toward my rustic-y theme.

Following the directions on the paint I used, I let the painted dishes dry for several hours, then cured them in the oven. 


In the end… I really like them! 
I think they have a rustic-western-y quality to them. 
Plus, they’re different, and personalized. Can’t go wrong with that! 



All wrapped up and ready to be boxed and sent to the bridal shower! 
Mrs. Knight says she likes them too! 
Guess all that crafty trial and error was worth it!

Bridesmaid Tote Bags

To start my DIY wedding recaps, I’d like to share the gifts I made for my bridesmaids and hostess first.
SO… For part one of my bridesmaid gifts…
I made tote bags for each of my six bridesmaids and my hostess.
Remember my ?
I used the same method pretty much, except I added ribbon and rolled fabric rosettes!

Anyway…
I started with plain black tote bags
(I got mine in packages of three from Hobby Lobby).
I used my Silhouette to cut each girls’ name out of vinyl to make a stencil.

I just cut around and then peeled the names off the vinyl sheet and stuck each one in the center of a tote.
Once they were stuck on well, I used a small paint brush to fill in the stencil with white paint.

I went with a black and white zebra theme with their bags.
I figured that might be something they’d be more likely to use over again than the wedding colors. That’s also the reason I didn’t add “Bridesmaid” or anything more specific than their name.
Once their names were dry (it took a few coats of the white paint to get it bright enough on the black totes), I hot glued a zebra ribbon around the top of each tote.
Each tote also got two fabric rosettes! Also hot glued.

Once the bags were all finished I stuff them with other goodies!!!

Bride Tote Bag {Silhouette}

Well hello there lovelies!!!
Apologies for the lack of crafty posts here lately…
I have been crazy busy trying to get the paperwork together for our new home financing… YAY! :)
And I’ve been SUPER busy working on wedding planning…

So THANKS so much for sticking with us through this busy time!!!

A wedding craft that I did just for me, just for fun, was my Bride Bag!

Every bride needs a handy little bag to carry around the wedding planning essentials!
So…
I am so excited to be able to share my Bride Bag tutorial with you today!
Materials Needed:
  • Plain Tote
  • Sticky backed Vinyl or other stencil
  • Fabric Paint
  • Iron on embellishments (I used my wedding flowers, daisies)
  • Cute little craft iron… Or a regular iron will do 😉

    (All these materials were Christmas gifts from my sweet sister, so thanks Miss Kayli for gifting me some awesome craft supplies!!)

First, I used my new Silhouette SD (Christmas gift from the hubs-to-be) to cut out the lettering, “Kassi’s Bride Bag June 2011”.

Next, I pulled the cutout lettering away from the vinyl sheet.
This became the stencil.
Then I peeled the backing off of the vinyl and stuck it to the tote.

*Tip – Sticky backed vinyl is great because once the backing is removed you can stick it onto pretty much anything and it’ll last long enough to work as a stencil.

The only fabric paint I had at the time was puff paint… but that wasn’t the look I was wanting for my bag… So I improvised…

I just used a small paint brush to brush the puff paint onto the stencil… I used pink and turquoise paint, my wedding colors of course!

It took a few coats of the puff paint to get it dark enough on the black tote to pop, but once I got those coats on, I just left it to dry overnight.

The next morning I simply peeled the vinyl stencil from the tote and walla, insta-tote wording!! :)

To spice it up a bit, I ironed on a few daisies (my wedding flower of choice) using my nifty little craft iron! (Again, thanks Kayli!)

The next, and final step is to fill your new Bride Bag with all the wedding planning essentials!!

In went my wedding planning notebook, wedding ring brochures, hand written guest list draft, and our engagement pictures CD.

I literally carry this bag with me everywhere I go!!
At less than four months til the wedding, it’s so nice to have everything I need right on hand in my handy little Bride Bag!

 This picture was taken by my Maid of Honor, Miss Kayli of course, after a LONG day of trying on wedding dresses!!!
As you can see, it’ll wear a girl out! 😉
But the Bride Bag in tow means less stress for the bride-to-be!!!
