Ten Weeks of Thanks- An Announcement

Happy Wednesday from Kayli!
I wanted to announce a little bit of a project today.
I’ve been inspired by a really fantastic church lesson. We were given ten topics and asked to write something that fell under them that we’re grateful for. At the end, we were encouraged to expand our lists. I’m a firm believer in counting my blessings and being aware of what I’ve been given. It’s something I need to work on though. I’m so blessed, but with all the hustle and go of school and life, I often forget just how good I have it. Don’t we all?
Don’t we all lose sight of how amazing our lives really are and how much there is to be thankful for?

We tend to remember our blessings around Thanksgiving time and the holidays- but the holiday season has come to an end; our New Years Resolutions are getting hard to keep or we’ve completely dropped them and life is so stressful. We forget.
So here’s the plan: Every Wednesday (starting this coming Wednesday, the 8th) for ten weeks, I’ll be taking an area or topic from the activity and talking about 5 things and/or people within it that I am grateful for and why.
I want to expand my list and count my blessings.

Here’s where you come in! Every Wednesday, you’ll have an opportunity to link up YOUR lists. I’ll give you the first topic today and you’ll link it up on the 8th- then next Wednesday I’ll give you the next topic and so on. I’m taking a little bit of a risk here, I’ve never done anything like this- so I really hope you’ll join me!
The topic for the 8th is PHYSICAL ABILITIES.
What are five (or more/less if you want) physical abilities that you are grateful for? Why are you grateful for them?
Your list can be made of whatever comes to mind.
Big things, small everyday things, something that maybe you haven’t thought of as a blessing before. It’s up to you! The point is to really think about how much you’ve been given and maybe put a little perspective on all the crazy that’s your everyday. Life is good and full of beautiful things, let’s name a few. :)

I hope I’ll see you next week!

A Natural Fabric Softener Solution and a Giveaway!

Hey there lovelies! How was your weekend?

Let’s start this week with a fun product review and giveaway! I don’t know about you but laundry is one of my LEAST favorite household chores. Anything that can make that process go by faster is a win in my book… Introducing Woolzies Dryer Balls!!! They are a non-toxic, natural solution for softening your fabrics. They’re made of 100% pure New Zealand wool but are safe for people with wool sensitivities. They claim to help eliminate wrinkles, shorten dry time (whoot!), reduce static and they are chemical free.

woolzies dryer balls review

I received a box of six XL Woolzies to try out. I’ve been using them in place of my normal dryer sheets for the last two weeks. Using the Woolzie dryer balls couldn’t be simpler… You just place the six dryer balls in the dryer with your wet clothing and turn it on! When the clothes are finished drying there’s less static, less wrinkles and softer clothes all without the film that dryer sheets can leave behind.

fabric softener alternative

I don’t like to use dryer sheets with my daughter’s clothes at all since she’s only three months old. I’m still afraid of the reaction she might have to chemicals on her clothing… I will however use the Woolzies dryer balls!

If you prefer scented laundry you can add a drop of fragrant essential oils to one or two of the dryer balls before putting them in with your wash. Again, fragrant laundry all without the harsh chemicals that can be found in other laundry softening alternatives.

Honestly, I wouldn’t say the dryer balls are better at removing static then dryer sheets, but the peace of mind that they’re not leaving anything else behind is well worth the trade off. Overall I was pleased with the product and felt good knowing that my daughter’s clothes especially could be less static-y, spend less time in the dryer and I didn’t have to worry about a rash or something not so fun on her skin later!

It’s YOUR lucky day because I have another box of Woolzies Dryer Balls to give to one Truly Lovely reader! Enter using the Rafflecopter form below. The giveaway will close one week from today and the winner will be announced on October 15th. Thanks for entering and good luck!!!

Disclosure: I received a box of Woolzies Dryer Balls in exchange for my honest review. As always opinions shared here are 100% my own.

A Few Reasons Why I Love The World Around Me: 10 Wks of Thanks Week #5

First of all, I’m grateful for all of YOU!!! Your birthday wishes have made this such an awesome celebration!

I can’t say thank you enough for being so awesome!!

That being said, this week is going to be one of my favorites easily! (: The topic is Things in Nature. I love nature. I love being outside. I LOVE the world around me. SO, let’s get this party started!!

First on my list, I love a good patch of thick green grass

I’m a mountain girl, so pretty green grass is an absolute favorite thing of mine! I’m just so thankful for it. For everything it is. I love the way it smells when it’s just been cut. I love cutting it. I love sitting in it. I love laying in it. I love the way it looks and feels. I love how it pops up in the spring after all the snow and cold is gone. And I love kicking off my shoes and walking in it. I’m grateful it keeps me from getting stickers when I go barefoot, I’m grateful for it because its so pretty!

Next up, cotton fields. So random considering I didn’t really know I loved them until this year, because I’d never really seen enough of them until this year. Up in the hometown it’s too cold to grow cotton, but Kassi and I both live far enough south now that they’re EVERYWHERE. And I love them. They’re just so stinking pretty. And they’re so productive, think of all the things we make with cotton. I’m wearing cotton right now, and I bet you are too. I can’t tell you how much I adore those millions of little white clouds right at ground level. There’s just something about a field of cotton.

Next are trees. Oh trees. My favorite trees EVER are aspens. Every fall they turn the most beautiful colors and in the summer they’re green and the leaves shake and they’re SO pretty. BUT I also love Weeping Willows. I always have, even though I’ve never really been around them. And I love pine trees and the way they smell. I love juniper trees and cottonwoods and oaks. All of them. I’m thankful that you can build things with them. I’m grateful we can make paper and furniture and houses and all of those wonderful things with them. I love that they’re planted on my college campus, and because I live in the desert, a lot of trees on campus already have blossoms. I’m grateful for that extra bit of pretty in my day.

I’m thankful for mountains. Clearly. Since I’ve brought them up in like every addition to this list. (: But I really am. Mountains are something to look at. And they always have the deepest colors and so much life. In the summer they have wildflowers and fishing holes and in the winter they have snow and frosted trees. They’re so big and there’s so much to them. They hold memories and secrets and the scary unknown and adventures. They’re my home. I just have a thing for mountains. Mountains and clouds. :)
And finally, flowers. I’m pretty sure flowers have ALWAYS been my favorite thing. Oooo I love them!! I used to pick them all the time and drive my Granny crazy. And then she embraced it and would buy them potted for me and let me pick what I wanted. I love growing them. I love cutting them and putting them in a vase on the table. They smell so sweet and are gorgeous and happy. I’m thankful they add so much beauty to the world. I love how delicate they are. I think about how hard and cold and mean the world can be and is really built to be, and how fragile flowers are in comparison- but they live on anyways. Spreading beauty and happiness and carrying on. Flowers are the best.

And that’s my list!!!

Thanks for reading!

Next week’s topic  is What About Today (3/14/12) Are You Thankful For?

Take a little time to appreciate the small blessings you receive through the day.

(Hopefully everyday.)

Happy Wednesday!

Bloggie Bestie Blog Swap with Megan of Absolute Mommy

Hello lovelies! We’d like to introduce you to a brand new Bloggie Bestie today!

Megan of Absolute Mommy!

She’s also a small ad sponsor of Truly Lovely this month, so it would be great if you’d click over and get to know her! :) She has a fun tutorial to share today!!! I’m over at her place as we speak sharing my Week Seven in Kayli’s Ten Weeks of Thanks series! :) Hope you’ll pop over and check it out!

Here’s Megan!!

Hi I’m Megan otherwise known as Absolute Mommy.  I like to blog about everything.  Nothing is off limits.  So you will find some mama stuff, some life stuff, some possible fashion stuff, and some crafty business.  If you get the chance visit me some time.  I’d love to meet you.
Today I’m here with some crafty business.  Let me start by saying, I am not a good tutorial person.  I hate taking pictures.  Scratch that, I think my camera hates me… Also I’m a fly by the seat of my pants crafter.  I love to craft, but have more fails than I would like to admit.  Thanks to Pinterest, I have board and likes filled with crafts I dream about.  I also have a stock pile of crafting supplies that just sit in no mans land.  Yep, I’m a craft supply hoarder!  So now a days, when I see something on Pinterest, I challenge myself to make it with stuff I already have.
Let me introduce you to these lovely bracelets:

Pinned Image
Pinterest/Hellojenny/the pin market
Can be found at HenryHappened

Aren’t they the cutest?  Well I was bound and determined to make these, but knew if I went to Michael’s to get the cord required, I’d spend a million dollars on other crafting supplies that would go to the craft supply cemetery… See where this is going?  So I challenged myself to use what I already had.  Like embroidery floss, chillin’ all by it’s lonesome thanks to an abandoned embroidery project.

Here is what I came up with… Not as cute as the originals, but I like them…

Supplies:
Old Tshirt cut into strips
Embroidery floss/yarn/cord/ribbon
whatever you have will work like a charm
Scissors
Glue Gun
Xtra Large safety pin
To get started cut your tshirt strips into 12-14″ long strips.
You will need three.
Then repeat that process with the embroidery floss.
You will also need three.
Line your pieces up, and use a scrap to tie the top.
You will be braiding these,
each tshirt strip will be paired with a piece of embroidery floss.

It should start to look like this.
You may need to realign your floss with your shirt scrap.
It helps with the braided effect.

Once braided they should look like this.

Cut your ends, so that it looks like a little knot.

Then using another small scrap,
lay the ends together.
Make sure this bracelet fits to your liking first.
Then take your trusty glue gun,
and glue the ends together.
Next wrap the scrap over the ends to finish them off.

Once wrapped, add more glue, and fold over.
Cut any excess fabric.

And that’s it.
A nice and easy t-shirt bracelet that will take you all of 10 minutes.
Seriously, they were that easy.
This would be a great project for tweens at a slumber party.
Well, the tween in me thinks so!
Thanks to Kassi for having me over today!  If you are missing her something awful, go check her out at my bloggy.  We are swapping spots today!!

Thanks SO much to Megan for swapping with me today! And being this week’s Bloggie Bestie!
Hope you lovelies have a nice Thursday!!! Oh, and enter our ! 😉

Fancy This Fridays 66 and Kassi’s Week 3!

WHOOT it’s Friday!
Now THAT is something to be thankful for!! :)
So… have you been keeping track?
Kayli is on .
SO far I’ve linked up to and …
So here’s my Week Three!!!

PEOPLE, alive today, that I am thankful for…
{Mind you, these aren’t ALL the people I’m thankful for… That list could go on for years… :)}

Wedding photo taken by Treehouse Photography
My Dad. It’s only fitting… His birthday is tomorrow, you know. :)
Happy Birthday Dad!!!
The man who loved ME first. MY first love.
The man who taught me to ride a horse, throw a ball, drive a stick shift.
Sat me down and gave me a pep talk when I was being a pansy on the basketball court. Sat me down and gave me a pep talk when I was wavering on what major to choose in college. Sat the hubs down and told him what for when he asked to marry his daughter. Yep, he’s pretty good at speeches. Thing is, he won’t do it unless whatever he has to say is important. SO it’s probably a good idea to listen. :)

Engagement photo taken by Treehouse Photography
Then of course, my husband.
The man who approached my dad, who pretty much scared away any boy that looked in my direction… And asked him to marry me. The one person I want to tell any and everything to… The one person that could talk me and my sister into
My best friend. My one and only.

Wedding photo taken by a friend
My Mom. She can hold her own in a room full of giggling girls toasting with cold Coors Light! She can make you feel better when you’re feeling absolutely miserable and you can’t see the good…. Mom will point it out. She will send you emails of things she saw online that might be fun to make and share on your blog… Then she’ll come up with because she’s actually where a good portion of your craftiness comes from… :)

Tracey, Megan, Kayli, The Hubs, Meghan, Charli, Kayce
My bridesmaids. I am blessed with the most AMAZING group of best friends.
Each one of those ladies has played an important role at some specific point in my life, then stuck out the rest just for fun. You all know Kayli:) What I would do without that girl… Well, nothing probably. . :)
I grew up down the road from Tracey. Learning to drive, basketball, we lived high school together. Megan has always been the hubs’ and my sidekick. There are no third wheels with us. Where we went, she went. Meghan Jo… She grew up with the hubs. If he hadn’t introduced us we would’ve found each other eventually. We’re too much alike. Miss Charli was my roommate my last semester of college. Girls nights. Shopping. Now she’s Kayli’s roommate. Kayce, also a college friend. Introduced her to hub’s best friend. Now they live a few streets over from us. Team ropings and nights out most weekends.
Women that make my life better and will always be important to me.

So… there you have it. My list of people, alive today, that I am thankful for.
WHO are you thankful for?
We have . :)

Until then, how about a little Fancy This Fridays
You know the rules. *wink*

Linking this here and here and .
AND to here for the first time! :)

Fancy This Features #61!

Happy Monday afternoon! It’s Kayli! :)
Let me start by saying, you guys are amazing. I went through the link ups and it took me forever to pick just a few, everything you made either looked super cute or super delicious! Here are some of my favorites.
The first is this adorable Argyle Valentine Wreath from Cassity at Remodelaholic! So easy, so cute and not over done. And homies, it’s ARGYLE. A-R-G-Y-L-E. Yeah. You cannot say no.
Carlee at Ladybird Ln. shared her idea for a Little Love Notes box. I love this because I’ve kept pretty much EVERY card and letter I’ve ever received. I have the first letter Kassi ever wrote me from college that I got when I was in like, fifth grade, and almost every note since then. We all have a stash right? It makes sense that you would come up with something to put them in- but I’d never thought of it until I saw this- and it’s genius. It’s also incredibly pretty. Bonus!
Last, but absolutely not least, are Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies from Allison at Feeding my Temple. Dude. (I say dude when something is either incredibly legit or I’m about to say something really important. Both apply here.) You get to use the box mix. You can decorate them anyway you want. They’re called CHOCOLATE CAKE MIX COOKIES. There is not a single word in there that isn’t awesome. I’m just throwing that out there.

And that’s it! Here’s a button for you lovely ladies!
It links right back to THIS very post! 😉

Also, on Wednesday I’m kicking off my
***Ten Weeks of Thanks Project***
The topic is Physical Abilities and you can get the details .
I really hope you’ll check it out.
If you’re planning on joining me, take a button! :)

I hope you have an amazing week and that I see you all on Wednesday.

Kassi’s Twenty Wishes Wrap Up 2014

If you are unfamiliar with our Twenty Wishes Project here on Truly Lovely please check out that link. So initially I had planned to link up every single month of last year. Then about September life happened. We moved in the end of October, I had to pack up my entire house mostly by myself with a toddler because hubs had already moved. It was a wreck. But, I decided I would share where I ended with my goals for 2014 and write a new list for 2015. Ladies that were participating feel free to share your final wish count in the comments below! I’d love to see where you ended up!

September through December updates are in purple. Updates for August are in maroon. July and June are in orange. May are in green. April are in pink. Updates for March are in blue. Updates for January and February are written in red.

Kassi’s Twenty Wishes Progress – 2014

1. Visit Disneyland with my little family.
I FINALLY wrote a post and shared some photos we took while at Disneyland. You can see that here.
We had the BEST time as a family visiting Disneyland and the beach. I have yet to sit down and write a blog post about it, but I will sooner or later. Until then, here’s a photo of the Mortensens at Radiator Springs! 😉
Only a few weeks to go!!! Getting so excited… Anyone been to Disneyland with an infant/toddler? What tips do you have for us?
Counting down the days now! Just over a month away!!!
Reservations have been made! We’re going to go with my husband’s family this coming summer! We’re nearly to the single digits for weeks until we head out for our vacation! 😉

RadiatorSprings

2. Paint my master bedroom.
Well, we moved. So I set up a completely new house… that didn’t need painted. haha.

3. Plant an upside down Mulberry tree somewhere at my house.
I planted my Weeping Mulberry Tree the first week of May! Read all about it and my other tree here!
My tree came!!! It’s actually just a little guy, sitting on my living room coffee table. The hubs and I were both sick with colds all weekend, but hopefully getting it planted will be my first to do of May!! 😉

4. Visit Build a Bear and build a bear for Klara.
In January we made a visit to Build a Bear at the Chandler Mall. We had the best time picking out a little cowgirl bear for my Klara. You can read all about our visit here.

5. Send a handwritten letter, note or card to someone via snail mail once a month.
Yep, another area where I slacked once all things went to crazy…..
I slacked on this one this month…. But I do have several Scentsy catalogs going out in the mail tomorrow all with a handwritten note inside. I guess that counts… Maybe. 😉 P.S. If you want a new Fall/Winter Scentsy Catalog message me your address and I’ll send you one too! 😉
I participated in a summer gift swap and sent a handwritten card to my new friends! 😉
Mother’s Day covered this month. Not only my own mom, but the hub’s step-mom, my nana and aunt got one too!
I literally just sat down to write this post and realized I hadn’t sent a letter for this month! SO, I got out my cute stationary and sent a handwritten card to my friend Bethani in Texas, you might know her from The Texan Pantry. Girl, if you’re reading this, check your mail in a day or two! 😉
I sent a handwritten card and printed a few photographs to my grandpa for his birthday in March, when I called to wish him Happy Birthday he said he’d received the card and was happy to see I’d sent pictures of Klara too. 😉
So far I sent two handwritten birthday cards in January and a handwritten Valentine card in February.

6. Save for and buy myself a tablet of some kind. Maybe an iPad or a Surface. I’ve always wanted one… 😉
I happened to mention to my husband that I wanted to save up for a tablet. I decided I wanted a Surface because they’re more like a little laptop and I thought that would be better for blogging. The morning of Valentine’s Day when I went in to turn on my work computer, I found a brand new Surface and a Valentine note from Nate sitting in my desk chair. Yep, I married a keeper!!! Any Surface users out there? What are your favorite apps, etc?

7. Complete my reading goal of 55 books in 2014.
All reading besides scriptures also went to the side… SO I didn’t make it. Oh well.
August didn’t lead to a whole lot of reading… Now that my daughter is weaned I don’t have a whole lot of extra time to sit and read, but I did get some reading done. I am at 35 of 55 books read.
So far I am at 33 of 55 books through the end of July.
As of the end of May I’m at 26 books read!
So far I have read 22 of my 55 book goal, putting me five books ahead. I tried putting the widget in like I always do and couldn’t get it to work right… :( But you can see the books I’ve read here if you’re interested.

8. Host and/or participate in a Google + Hangout with some bloggie friends.
So I made an attempt at this one this last month… I tried hosting one during the afternoon on a weekday and had two girls log/attempt to log on. I discovered I can’t do a hangout on my Surface which is a HUGE bummer, so I had to use my phone. Google, please make an app for the Surface!!! Thanks. But in the meantime, friends, say hey to Megan of Shaping Up To Be A Mom! We “met” in “person” via Google+ Hangout! I plan to try hosting another hangout sometime soon with hopefully more attendees! If you want an invite, comment below. 😉

9. Have the carpet in my house professionally cleaned. I know this sounds like an ought to do versus a want, but I ought to clean the carpets myself… I WANT to have someone else do it!! haha

10. Make over my guest bathroom.
Still haven’t painted, but I did change out the shower curtain and accessories. Painting is on the to do list!
This is a work in progress. I already ordered a new shower curtain and floor rugs. When Kayli is here over her spring break she has promised to help me paint!

11. Take Klara to The Color Run for her “second” time. Technically last year she was just riding in mommy’s tummy. This year I plan to take her in her stroller!
We did our second color run in Tempe, AZ back in January!! It was a blast just like last year and Klara did so well! You can read all about it here.

12. Get a front screen door for my house.

13. Get together monthly with at least one friend. Dinner, shopping trip, lunch, etc.
We had fair food with friends at the Lordsburg fair!
Klara, my sister and I had a lunch date with my new friend Tina for June! And for July we met up with friends for Luna Rodeo weekend.
We had a little BBQ at our house with my sister in law and her family this month. That’s going to have to count… haha. Its been a busy month!!
Klara and I were popular in April! We went on our first lunch date with Klara’s Aunt Brianne AND had a lunch date with our friend, Kayce! Yay for getting out of the house and seeing our friends!!!
This month Kayli and I went shopping here in town for some new TOMS shoes when the ones I ordered didn’t fit… FYI, be careful ordering TOMS online. The sizing can be really weird!!!
In January my sister, sisters in law and I went to Tempe for The Color Run, we went out to the mall the night before, had dinner and did some shopping, so I’m counting that. 😉 February we went with the entire family to the steakhouse in town for my sister in law’s birthday. We took Klara with us and she got to have her first apple sauce and ‘meal’ in a restaurant. 😉

14. Visit here in Safford. I’ve wanted to go since they opened, but haven’t ever made it since it’s across town!
Done!!! You can read all about our trip to Caboose Frozen Treats here! Oh, and bonus, here’s a picture of our whole group that the guy at Caboose took and shared on their Facebook page! Yep, that’s me holding Klara on the right… squinting into the sun… haha.

15. Figure out a system for organizing and saving the baby clothes and items that Klara has outgrown.
So I finally took care of Klara’s newborn to 12 months clothes! I purchased two of the under the bed soft plastic organizers from Wal-Mart and sorted through her old clothes discarding anything that was stained or something she never really wore. The rest got put into the organizers and stuck under her bed. I’m saving them in case we have another girl someday or if someone close to me needs the clothes. Plus I’d like to save some for Klara for her future kids like my mom did for me. 😉

16. Get tickets for and attend the 2014 National Finals Rodeo.
We went!!! It was AMAZING!!!! The noise was a little loud for Klara but we were able to go with some good friends and take my mom and dad for the first time! SO FUN!!!
This is a work in progress! We have a hotel booked and everything to go to Vegas for the NFR ACCEPT the NFR tickets… So friends, if you know of anyone selling theirs, we are in the market for four. 😉

17. Build a container garden of some sort for my backyard.

18. Pay off my credit card. I’m SO close!!! I’m sure I can have it all paid off by the end of this year.

19. Take a photography class or workshop.
At the beginning of March Kayli and I attending a photography workshop held at the local college by Impact Photography Group. They are a husband and wife team that is well known and highly popular in our area. We both learned a ton of good information and can’t wait to attend the next one they host. that I took the afternoon of the workshop putting to use some of the new things I learned while attending. It’s straight out of my camera, no editing involved other than adding my watermark. Yep, so worth it! If you’re interested in seeing more of my photography check out my website or .

20. Throw a surprise party for someone.

So there you have it! My wishes for 2014… A lot left undone, but that’s what happens I suppose. What are your wishes for the coming year, month, week? 😉

Kassi’s Twenty Wishes Progress – August

If you are unfamiliar with our Twenty Wishes Project here on Truly Lovely we want to invite you to check out the prior link for the what and the why and then join us by writing up your 20 wishes list and coming back here on Wednesday, August 27th (TOMORROW!!) to link it up with us! For those of you already in on the fun, it’s time to share your progress for August 2014!!!

Updates for August are in maroon. July and June are in orange. May are in green. April are in pink. Updates for March are in blue. Updates for January and February are written in red.

Again, don’t forget to get your list written and come back here on Wednesday (July 30th) to link it up with us!!! Past… There’s a giveaway if you share your 20 wishes list and/or progress so far!!! 😉
